Using MultiMC Launcher

MultiMC is an alternative launcher for Minecraft, which allows you to isolate different Minecraft versions without conflicting files. It also allows you to more easily install mods and manage them too.

Installing Java

Minecraft needs Java to run, and the version we will need is Java 21 to be exact. Click below to download the right installer for your system

After downloading, please open the installer and install it as you would with any other program.

Downloading MultiMC

MultiMC comes without an installer, and instead will be a zip file with everything already in one folder. Click below to download the right version for your system

After you download the zip, extract the files to any location you'd like, and open the folder.

After you have opened the folder, look for and run the MultiMC executable.

  • Windows: Look for MultiMC.exe in the MultiMC folder
  • Mac: N/A, I don't have a Mac so I can't tell you where it would be
  • Linux: Look for MultiMC script in the MultiMC folder

Setting up the launcher

After you ran the MultiMC launcher, it will show a setup. Follow the steps below:

  1. Choose American English for the language
  2. Choose the right Java you installed. It should be version 21.x.x
  3. You can leave the Memory Allocation at the default

Setting up your Account

On the top right, click Profiles and in the dropdown click Manage Accounts

On the right side, click Add Microsoft

This will open up a dialog saying Please open up https://www.microsoft.com/link in a browser and put in the code ______ to proceed with login., open up that url by clicking on it, and input the code when it asks you. You will then need to login with your Microsoft account.

After you see the All done! screen, you can return to MultiMC and click "Close" on the account manager.

Setting up the Minecraft Instance

On the top left, click Add Instance

In the list of versions under Vanilla, choose the version 1.20.5 and click OK on the bottom

Setting up the Mods

Right click the 1.20.5 instance you created, and click Edit Instance

In the Version tab, click Install Fabric on the right menu, and in the dialog just click OK

After this, go to the Loader mods tab on the left, and click View Folder on the bottom right. This is where you will put all the mods into.

Download the latest mods we will use by clicking here

Extract all the mods into the mods folder. If you see an error saying the file already exists, overwrite the file.

You can now close this folder and go back to MultiMC

Starting Minecraft

Now you can click Launch on the 1.20.5 instance, and wait for Minecraft to load up.

When it loads up, you will see Welcome to Minecraft!, click Continue on the bottom.

Click Multiplayer. Tick the box for Do not show this screen again, and then click Proceed.

On the bottom, click Add Server

For Server Name, type in any name you'd like such as "Cisco Server"

For Server Address, type in cisco.nah-id.win

Click Done, and then double click on the server you just added.

Congratulations! You are now in the server! Have fun and do your assignments!
